What I ought to be doing this weekend...
But can't because the money is tight and I just can't race for 3 hours straight.
The Championships will be held at Bentwaters Parks, an ex-airfield in Suffolk, near to the town of Woodbridge and the North Sea Cycle Route, approximately 30km of easy riding from the Port of Harwich. The site covers about 1,000 acres and with a variety of roads as well as a 1.3-mile long main runway is ideal for HPV racing!and here is an article from The Sunday Times about HPV racing from this Sundays edition (10 August 2008).

12 day until the Grande Depart.
London is staging the Prologue and the Stage 1 departure of this years edition.I'm not wanting to dwell on last years race and the scandels that came from that as the courts and history will sort out that particular can of worms. I can only enjoy this years race and hope that it is the start of a new era of clean and open competition between all the riders.
That all said, I'm going down to watch both days and on the second day there is a World Handcycle Federation race in Hyde Park in the afternoon (16.30hrs).

Handcycle ride 23.5.07
Such a warm day I couldn't sit around the flat all day. So I got the handcycle out and took off one of the local routes I feel safe on.Covered 13.55 miles (21.8 km) and averaged 10.9 miles/hour (17.5 km/h).
The only worry/ problem I have is that the bearig in the hand grip are not secured and have a tendancy to pop out of the crank handle when I grippig hard and giving it some, up hill normally. I'm going to have to find some shims and pack them out as this is rather of putting and could be a danger when I need to steer.

Don't like the FA Cup Final? Go do something else instead.
So I did, I waited for the roads to become quieter and then I headed out for a handcycle ride through Wood Green, Muswell Hill, Finchley and then back home. All in it was 12.7 miles (20.8km) finding a couple of big hills to climb and meeting a few old faces on the way. The new V-cranks I got from Kevin Papworth feel great to use and aren’t leaving my elbows sore achy afterwards, which is always a bonus.The final result of the Wembley final seems to be a 1-0 result for Chelsea. Well good for them but for the money they were asking for tickets I’d want to see something more than one goal being scored. Oh well, that’s why I don’t watch any football and go and enjoy the lovely spring day and take in the views and fresh (for London) air.

This weekend I will be mostly...
In Stoke Mandeville for the UKHCA's first Handcycle training camp of 2007.
There is also the first Grand Prix race of the season at Hillingdon on Sunday morning so there should be a good turn-out from us handcyclists.

A spring jaunt up the river. (aka, a good training ride on the river Lea.)
This weekend has been excellent weather wise and after 5 days sitting in a most unpleasant office I was chomping at the bit to go out on the bike. One of the few traffic free routes and the best kept secrets of Tottenham are Tottenham Marsh and the river Lea towpath. So with this info and the Sun high in the sky I set off for an hour and a half ride up the river as far as I could go.http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=864687

I could only go as far as the Swan and Pike Road in Enfield as there is a tricky couple of gates which were not designed for handcycles.

First handcycle ride of the year (2007)
Map of the route.A good ride. I just needed to go out and work off some pent up stress and Christmas Pud. Nothing to heavy although I did go up Cranley Gdns (infamous for the serial killer Dennis Nilsen).
I was out on the handcycle for about an hour and forty minutes, covered 12.7 miles (20.4 kph), average speed 10.6 mph (17.1 kph).
