Minet Park Festival Criteriums

Today was the Minet Park Festival Criteriums in Hillingdon. Note to self - check your diary at the beginning of the week to see if there is anything to prepare for during the next weekend!

This of cause was not the case this week and it was only while looking through Cycling Weekly listing during my lunch break on Friday did I see that there was a disability race at Hillingdon.

Anyway, went along and meet Marc Poolman, who had traveled from South Wales the night before.

As there were just the two of us handcyclists, we decided to ride around together with one pulling on the front while the other shelters behind. Good for Marc as I act as a great windbreak. We where doing really well for 45 minutes and then I ‘bonked out’ (lost all energy) I thought I’d take it easy for a moment or two to recover while climbing one of the hills. I thought I could recover and catch Marc back on the decent, but when I came to putting the power down to catch up, there was nothing in the tank and so I just eased off the pace we were doing and then it became a fight for survival to the finish line, which was another 15 minutes away.

All in all a good race and as Marc came first and me second the prize money was in the bag.
